Course Outline

MONDAY

1st Location: South Bend Fire Department  – 4 hours of Classroom Lecture.  An overview of the week and review of the textbook.

2nd Location: Local high school – 3 hours at the pool to cover a swim evaluation of 300 yards followed by a variety of skill stations.

TUESDAY

Location: East Racy Waterway and St. Joseph River

Mostly land based skill stations with boat operations mixed in.  Defensive self-rescue techniques later in the day on the East Race Waterway

WEDNESDAY

Location: East Race Waterway and St. Joseph River

This day will build on day 1 skill stations by adding in water. Boat operations will continue, and this will be day one of vehicles in moving water.

Afternoon sessions to include shallow water rescues, and aggressive swimming techinques.

THURSDAY

Location: East Race Waterway and St. Joseph River

This will be the most physically and mentally challending day of the week.  Continueing to build on the first three days, day four will include more student decision making, the second day of vehicles in moving water, and an afternoon of aggresive go rescue skills.

FRIDAY

Location: East Race Waterway and St. Joseph River

Written exam in the morning followed by and afternoon of team based rescue scenario.
